Things to Do in Batesville, AR (November 2026)

Batesville is the county seat of Independence County and sits where the White River leaves the Ozarks, a spot where shoals once made it a busy river port and trade center. The city calls itself the oldest existing city in Arkansas, and it is home to Lyon College, founded in 1872. Today people come for the riverfront parks, the historic Main Street downtown, the Arkansas Scottish Festival each October and a holiday light display that earned Batesville the title Christmas Capital of Arkansas.
